If my people who are called by my name

2 Chronicles 7:14 starts out with a statement of possession.  God is saying that HIS people.  The people He loves.  The people He has called.  The people who are identified with Him.  If they will...

Hopefully this is you.  Hopefully, through this time of turmoil and stress, and uncertainty you are able to call yourself one of God's people.  God is identifying them as being called by His name.  This has several ways of understanding.

First, God's people are called.  They are called unto something.  When Jesus first walked up to Peter, James, John, and Andrew (the first disciples) He called to them and told them to "Come follow me and I will make you Fishers of Men."  If we declare ourselves to be followers of Jesus then we are identifying ourselves with the call to be fishers of men.  Through this Corona Virus and the times afterward, we need to be fulfilling this call.  It can start now, with you agreeing to stand in the gap for your community.

Second, we as followers of Jesus are identified as Christians.  In some places this is a dirty word, but that is usually by people who have only experienced selfish people who attend church.  We as followers of Jesus should stand apart from that.  While we do attend church (when possible) we are more than church goers, we are doers of the word.  The Prayer Pandemic is about living our faith out in front of our neighbors.  We will serve AND pray.

Third, there is much in a name.  What does your name mean?  Each name has a meaning.  Christ means messiah or "the anointed one".  Jesus means "the Lord is salvation".  Together the name Jesus Christ lays a foundation for our entire faith.  The Lord is salvation through the anointed one sums up the Christian's belief.  We believe that Jesus is the anointed Son of God and through His payment for our sin by His death on the cross and resurrection we are saved!  Identifying with this truth is what makes us a Christian.  It does not matter if we were born into the church, or if we were baptized, or how good we are.  Only through belief in what Jesus did can we be saved.  Once we believe this then we become one of the children of God, a follower of Jesus, called by His name.
